Set up your domain and hosting
Guide identifier: domain-hosting
This guide helps clarify the fundamentals before you take action. It works as a practical reference, a decision aid, and a useful starting point for prioritizing the next actions that matter most in your context.
Why a Domain and Hosting?
A domain is your website's address on the internet (e.g., mysite.com). Hosting is the disk space on a server where your website is stored. Both are essential to get your site online.
Choose a Domain
Your domain should be:
- Easy to remember - Avoid long or complex names
- Relevant - Related to your business or name
- Professional - Prefer extensions like .com, .co.uk, .business, etc.
- Available - Check that the domain isn't already taken
Configure DNS Settings
DNS (Domain Name System) connects your domain to your hosting. Here's how to set it up:
- Access DNS settings at your registrar (who manages your domain)
- Point your DNS to Codbip hosting
- Wait 24-48 hours for DNS propagation
SSL Configuration
SSL secures the connection between your site and visitors. Codbip includes a free SSL certificate for your domain.
Make sure:
- HTTPS protocol is enabled
- SSL certificate is valid
- Visitors see the padlock in the address bar
Verify Configuration
Once configured, test your site by typing your domain in the address bar. You should see your site in HTTPS with a green padlock.
